RAW MATTERS

Numéro Switzerland
Every object begins with material. In this work, the story of the shoe begins with stone; layered, fractured, and shaped over time.
This series moves away from a conventional styling approach. The compositions are developed as an archaeological process. Limestone fragments, raw concrete, untreated wood, and wire are brought together not as a backdrop, but as the foundation of the visual language. Materials here are not passive; they actively define the structure of the image.
The shoes are not positioned as isolated or privileged objects. Instead, they exist in relation to the surfaces and materials around them, becoming part of a larger system. The composition is therefore read not through hierarchy, but through the balance established between different elements.
Unfinished surfaces and raw edges reveal the inherent nature of the materials. In contrast, leather and canvas carry traces of human intervention; marks of craft, intention, and process. These two modes of making coexist without hierarchy, forming a quiet dialogue.
Within this context, the work moves beyond decoration and focuses on a more fundamental question: What happens when an object defined as valuable is placed alongside the raw and fragmented structures that make its existence possible?
